As the start of lent comes into view I am very excited how God is going to speak to me, our church, and our local community through prayer. I hope you have had the opportunity to pick up the 40 day prayer guide “Seek God for the Cityâ€, it is an awesome tool that will assist and help you channel your prayers during lent. For me there is something really powerful about several local churches coming together and meeting God in prayer for our local communities. I believe over 1,300 copies have been distributed so far, imagine all those people interceding each day for 40 days over our Greater Binghamton Region.
During my reading today I came a crossed a verse that challenges us as a community of believers to pray together for our city. The call for this prayer comes from Jeremiah 29:7, “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.â€
I got to thinking that if God wanted the Israelites to pray over their city of exile, how much more should we want to pray for peace and prosperity in our city? A city that we have either chosen to live or have been called to live, a place that we call home and are not foreigners too. What great things could be accomplished through this united front of prayer? How will we see God’s manifest his presence over and in this area?
I hope that you will join me on your knees in prayer during this time! Together we have the opportunity to help restore our city, watch God do amazing things, and bring about prosperity.
