Many of you know that Arnie and I are part of the Thursday morning Greater Binghamton Prays revival prayer group. Occasionally, God uses that prayer group to bring a word that is very pertinent to what we are facing in ministry at the time.
Thursday morning was one of those mornings. Pastor Dan Little, from Landmark Church in Binghamton, spoke on the subject of “Power to Forsake Falsehood – No Small Matter.†Our devotional time focused on the very real way that the demonic forces work to keep believers from fully entering into the joy of their salvation and the freedom that our Father has granted us in His Son, our Savior. Dan stated two obvious truths:
1. “No Christian is ever under the power of demonic lies... except the ones he or she believes.â€
2. “All Christians are set totally free by the truth... except the truths they do not know or have failed to apprehend.â€
Dan emphasized the obvious: “The greatest problem with deceitful spirits is this, they are deceitful.â€
Dan stressed that, “whenever possible they prefer to influence our lives not by a direct encounter but in much more subtle ways.†Such as, parents passing on anxieties, esteem issues, a critical spirit to their children. A father or mother exampling a life of violence, depression, alcoholism, infidelity that becomes part of the son’s or daughter’s lifestyle. Or a culture that has glorified sexual perversion for decades desensitizing our collective consciousness to its dangers.
We, as a church fellowship, must pray for and help one another find full freedom in Christ. If the people of Valleyview pursue this freedom in Christ together we can expect a couple of results:
1. The Holy Spirit will forcefully impel us to “drink in†the Word of God as a thirsty person drinks water, and,
2. The Word of God will then shine a bright, holy light on the demonic deceit long held and these lies will be the first to fall.
John 8:34-36 record the word of Jesus when he says, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. 35 A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free (NLT emphasis mine). As we grow in this relational realization and come to know and believe the truth of God about ourselves and about Jesus, much of this demonic deception will be brought into the light and we will know it for what it is: a spiritual poison that tries to rob us of a “rich and satisfying life†(John 10:10).
I encourage you to pray for one another. The enemy is active. Pray that together we will live in the freedom found in “the way, the truth, and the life,†Christ Jesus, and that the light of his glory will reveal the demonic deception that has oppressed God’s people for so long.
